'Business' Isn't A Dirty Word

It occurred to me the other day while talking to a designer about becoming a design lead that the way "business" creeps into most designers heads is like a horror flick. There's a misunderstanding (mistrust?) of how business logic and skill get applied to business problems. Designers introduction into the "business" world can seem frightening.
Like most designers, I started from the craft of solving problems for people. The fact that there was an exchange of business value in my work was always present, but never a driving factor in decision making. Once I started running a business, my understanding quickly shifted. I began to understand the unique value I could provide to a business to grow product engagement and revenue. This was exciting and I was different!
