We want to say a special thanks to all the nonprofits who applied to participate in ZURBwired this year, as well as to all the volunteers who've already committed to spending a crazy 24 hours at ZURB HQ on April 8th.
Less than three weeks until ZURB hosts our annual 24-hour design collaboration effort: ZURBwired— and we're happy to announce that we've selected the 2010 nonprofit organization.
ZURB will be teaming up with the folks over at RAFT (Resource Area for Teaching), whose mission is to make hands-on teaching more accessible and affordable through the many resources they offer educators. They are able to continue this mission through their website, San Jose warehouse, and their newly added Redwood City warehouse.
Get to Know RAFT
RAFT is a nonprofit organization that creatively transforms donated business materials into packaged classroom kits on hundreds of curriculum topics. Teachers use these affordable kits to teach important concepts in science, math, literacy, and art. These kits are designed to provide each student with a powerful “hands-on†learning experience. Last year RAFT provided over 43,000 classroom kits to teachers in the Bay Area.
"The state of California has continuously cut their education budget causing teachers to often end up spending their own money on classroom supplies and materials for their lesson plans. RAFT is able to provide teachers, at a low cost, classroom kits focused on their curriculum so that they can be the best they can be in challenging economic times."RAFT's ZURBwired application
The ZURBwired team will be tackling the bulk of the RAFT.net website, paying special attention to their donor pages, and helping them reach out to a new donor base through not only their website, but through updated print collateral as well. And— for those of you not already familiar with our event— we'll be doing it all in 24 hours.
The whole event begins at 8:00am on April 8th and ends at 8:00am on April 9th (after which we all go home and sleep for a day!). ZURB and our partners will cover all the costs associated with the project, an opportunity worth over $30,000.
It's Not Too Late To Get Involved!
We're still looking for partners and volunteers to join us on this adventure. Volunteering opportunities include:
- Photographers (both on and offsite)
Watch the Event Unfold
When April 8th rolls around, we know you'll want to see what's going down at ZURB HQ. Lucky for you, we'll be sending out updates, live, for the whole 24 hours (though they get a little less eloquent around 3am).
