The content management system is well underway. Month-long websites rarely go without problems and this one-day project was going great for 16 hours. Not bad.
We had planned features for the CMS earlier in the day, as ideation sketches became specific screens in the website. These features included the ability to:
- Manage events
- View who signed up
- Send emails
- Check in people who arrived at events
Things were looking good. But a problem occurred when our engineers uploaded the code to Web Faction, with whom Peninsula was already hosting their main website. The plan was to keep the microsite to a subdirectory — rebuildingtogetherpeninsula.org/25. But it didn’t work. The Rails app assumed it was at the root level of the site. When we moved it, it couldn’t find the assets.
The engineers brainstormed ideas. First on the list of ideas was to use a subdomain instead of subdirectory. Another idea passed around was purchasing a new URL. Then someone pointed out that the print material was already at the press… with the URL. Scratch those ideas. We just have to push through now. So they got to work. Stay tuned …
