We're on the cusp of embarking on another ZURBwired, our coffee-fueled, 24-hour design marathon where we work side-by-side with one nonprofit. Every year, we work with a dedicated nonprofit team and a group of passionate volunteers to accomplish the impossible — create an entire marketing plan from scratch. The catch: it has to all be done in 24 hours.
This year, we're working with Rebuilding Together Peninsula, who had the right mixture of high energy, strong mission and clear goals that we look for in a nonprofit. They've got a pretty scrappy team who's gonna come in, kick butt and take names.

Rebuilding Together Peninsula has a simple mission: ensure everyone has a safe and healthy home to live in. To accomplish their mission, they aide in minor and major home repairs for less affluent folks around the Bay Area. Last year, some 3,000 volunteers helped to repair 67 homes and community facilities. Next year, will be their 25th Anniversary, which will be helping them celebrate!
Our Work With Rebuilding Together Peninsula
We'll help Rebuilding Together Peninsula with a brand strategy and design for their anniversary celebrations. Here's a breakdown of some of the stuff will be doing in the next 24 hours:
- A landing page for their 25th Anniversary
- Invitations (web and print)
- Posters
- A video presentation for the event
- And designing other print collateral, such as bus ads and yard signs
Using our design process and goal-oriented teamwork, we'll get it all done in a tight 24-hour timeframe. Our philosophy behind Wired is that anyone can use design to breakthrough barriers and create something wonderful.
Nonprofits Benefit from Design Thinking
This is our sixth Wired! We were crazy enough to do our first event in 2006. But we weren't just pulling a stunt. We actually saw a huge educational opportunity where nonprofits could learn design thinking and push forward!
Working with nonprofits over the years, we've seen that they need every detail worked out before taking action. There's a time and place for detail, but it can paralyze a project just getting off the ground. That's where design thinking can help.
And that's what we'll be using when working alongside Rebuilding Together Peninsula, showing them our process and techniques to speed past humps. In the end, we'll be giving them more than just a site or a handful of invitations. We'll also be giving them the tools to do this again on their own for years to come! So get ready, cause the next 24 hours are going to rock around the clock.
