This is the long version— for the shorter version
read about me.
Entrepreneur Bryan Zmijewski is a Campbell, California based brand engineer, writer and
consultant. While completing his Bachelor's degree in Product Design from Stanford
University, Bryan began working with Skyline, a manufacturer of children's toys.
As Skyline's first employee, Bryan gained experience in many areas. Impressed by his
design sense and his self-starter nature, Skyline founders made Bryan responsible not
only for creating ideas for new toys, but also for deciding how best to market those
toys. Bryan's hard work helped move Skyline from a startup company to an industry
leader; the company was purchased by product design giant IDEO.
After acquisition by IDEO, Bryan helped integrate Skyline into IDEO, ensuring a
smooth transition and establishing strategic energy. In his continued work with
IDEO, he facilitated communication and working relationships with more than 100
toy companies, as well as helping create and license more than 40 toy concepts to
companies like Mattel (Barbie, Fisher Price, and Tyco), Hasbro and Playmates.
Bryan became more interested in running his own business. This interest led him to
co-found eXPLICO, Inc. His experience at eXPLICO gave him a crash course in the
intricacies and many tasks that must be handled in order to successfully start a
business. Bryan was responsible for everything from the company's website development,
recruiting and managing 9 consultants, pitching the company to potential angel investors
and recruiting board members.
At the same time of his work at eXPLICO, Bryan also served as a lecturer at Stanford
University, an assignment he still holds today. Within the University's design division,
Bryan teaches both basic and advanced design conceptualization classes. During his
tenure, he introduced a curriculum focusing on utilizing new technologies to improve
ideation, and integrating business concepts and trends from the new economy.
While continuing his teaching duties at Stanford, Bryan formed ZURB in February of 1998.
At ZURB, Bryan serves as a brand engineer providing strategic design, marketing and branding
assistance. His work for clients including Sun Microsystems, Versitas, Finisar and
ClickTracks has included identity development, illustration, information design, web
design, software design, icon design and multimedia work.
Bryan's future plans include co-authoring a book on the intangibles inherent in business
relationships, lecturing to both students and business groups on design issues and
continuing to grow his art and
photography interests.
