The sophisticated typography, refined brand strategy, increased emphasis on sports photography and bold layout choices have really pulled the SB Nation network together from a design and UX perspective. Not only are the sites attractive, they create a seamless experience across devices. We’ve viewed our September 2012 redesign as a new baseline. While we are really happy with where we ended up, there’s more to do.
We want to make it easier for our audience to engage with our communities - to add their voice, stories, inside jokes - from any device. On many of our sites, readers crave the discussion threads, comments, and the shared social experience. We need to iterate on the design to encourage more of that behavior and bring community to the forefront. But it’s tricky: communities of passionate fans are loud and delicate things. Even small tweaks to site interaction can have big changes in the way these users and writers relate to one another, and to their team. We want to get it right.
