Which approach to estimate a budget on a wep project? Full payment or site profit´s percentage?

Hi there. Where about to estimate a budget for a client´s web site. It´s a job hunter website which must have this features: // anyone can upload his/her CV and apply for a job position // companies will post job offers (generally requiring mining/petroleum and other areas in industry or services). Medium to high positions in an enterprise (marketing/ administration/ sales/ technical/management areas). // companies will be able to search in the site database // aplicants will be able to upload CV, apply for a job requirement post on site login (free). // companies will pay a fee to post/search the site database. There are 2 possible modalities: monthly fee (search/post) and premium (same as previous but for a percentage of the position salary, my client makes all the filtering and selection of the best applicant). Well it turns out that we can either estimate the web site developent (custom made CMS as you can see) in one payment (it has a control panel to manage information, cv´s , etc), or... ...our client offers to share a percentage of the monthly web site profits with us (as we were "a developer partner" of that website). Do anyone has been through a similar dilemma? Is some of you (designers or developers) working or maintaining some client web application/CMS/ site and have accorded a monthly percentage of the project´s profit? Any opinion or example welcome. We can estimate full cost, but we don´t have any idea of the percentage to agree, or if there is some other "agreement figure" to plan an alternate payment method. Many thanks and hope someone post something :) Mauro (for a project to be hosted in Argentina, first stage will held local job hunts, and then in the country and maybe in some latinAmerican countries. Bilingual site ENG-ESP).

Looking for a correct approach to handle input text changes with ajax

Hello. I have a doubt about the correct handling of input text field changes. The example of the issue we found (only in Chrome/Safari... I guess it´s the webkit model which it´s laughing at me), an issue when trying to change the value in an input text field. In the product detail page, distribuidoracuyana.com/producto/ahuecador-para-melon-axen/01660001/ at the right side it´s the site cart, where you can change the quantity (and THAT´S the input field I mentioned). - You can change the amount, and then click on "agregar al carrito / add to cart" button. and that will trigger a script on the head that does the ajax magic. Well... in Firefox /IE there´s no problem. But with Safari and Chrome, when trying to change the amount, it ADDS the new string to te previous one, so when you try to change 1 for 2, you obtain a 12! It´s certanly annoying. My first guess it´s that onBlur we are executing a part of the ajax, and (maybe) onFocus, we may clear the inputField values, to force the browser (and the user) to type the new value. Again, the problem is only in chrome/safari Any help, welcome!

Looking for a pay method for a new CMS.

Hi there. We´re from Argentina, and our studio is joining forces with a programmer to produce a CMS in three flavors (Basic, Simple + product catalog, and Full (basic +catalog+ shopping cart). Each one has included the hosting charge, and the possibility of has a com.ar or a .com domain within the package. The idea is to charge for a Setup amount ( in order to install the CMS, customize color-fonts of the client, create the database, for example; but also to be safe about of the customization inversion (70% design+xhtml-css, 30% php programming and MySQL setup) But each plan has a monthly fee, that consists in the hosting + a given amount of maintenance time (checking site parameters, observing SEO, fixing any annoyance, resize and optimize photos, for example) + a percentage of money for using the system. To charge at the beginning (setup) and then make the user choose one monthly fee ( No maintenance / Basic maintenance / Premium maintenance), it´s - for me - a little messy for the final user (they may have to handle two different values). An option was to divide the setup in 4 payments and add it to the monthly fee.. . (that´s the way that the principal provider or broadband Internet connection charges here for 6 months for an item called "line digitalization")... but again I think it´s somehoaw weird to charge an amount for the first 4 months and then stabilize the cost in the final fee. We´re stucked at this dilemma for 2 weeks now... so any help (or online example) is welcome :) Thanks, Mauro.
